Educação além das fronteiras: práticas do movimento de educação de base em Tefé/AM (1983-1986)

Abstract

This study focuses on the Basic Education Movement in the municipality of Tefé during the period from 1983 to 1986. Its general objective is to explore the boundaries of educational practices in the Basic Education Movement (MEB) in the municipality of Tefé/AM during the transition period between the leadership of Dom Joaquim de Lange and Dom Mário Clemente Neto as presidents of the MEB. To this end, we outline the following specific objectives: to trace the trajectory of adult education from the 1940s to the 1980s; to evaluate whether the Basic Education Movement was able to restructure its practices towards emancipatory education; and to identify signs of change evidenced in the practices of the MEB in Tefé during the transition from the military regime to the period of redemocratization. The research is theoretically and methodologically grounded in the writings of Coelho (2022), Kadt (2007), Wanderley (1984), Fávero (2006), Paiva (1987), Barros (2020), Pinsky (2008), and Minayo (2007). The Basic Education Movement emerged in 1961 through the collaboration between the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil and the Federal Government, with the aim of educating and raising awareness among the populations in the underdeveloped areas of the country, including the Northeast, North, and Midwest regions. In the municipality of Tefé, the Movement was established in 1963, with Dom Joaquim de Lange serving as president from 1963 to 1982. The Movement was later taken over by Dom Mário Clemente Neto (1982-2000), who continued its practices while rethinking some issues involving the Prelature and consequently the MEB. In Tefé, the MEB carried out educational practices related to education and health, adapting to different realities and historical contexts.
