Coronéis de barranco: contexto político e econômico na formação do município de Ipixuna/Am (1930-1956)

Abstract

This research aims to highlight the genesis of the "coronéis de barranco" (riverbank colonels) in the pre-emancipation period of the municipality of Ipixuna-AM, analyzing their dynamics and power relations during the rubber boom era, concerning the peak of rubber production in the Amazon. The research focuses on the years 1930 to 1956 and uses qualitative interviews based on Oral History as its research method. In developing this work, we aim to discuss the "coronéis de barranco," their relationship with rubber tappers in the Amazonian context, and their connection to local history, initially using bibliographic references as an investigative framework. Regarding the research results, linking the bibliographic studies gathered with oral sources, we point out that this figure is indeed directly linked to this city and that they were the main determining agents in the formation of the political, economic, and cultural structure of this region.
