A atuação do pedagogo no ambiente hospitalar: uma reflexão a partir da revisão bibliográfica narrativa

Abstract

Pedagogy, in recent years, has expanded its spectrum of actions, with the emergence of very diverse specializations within the same career. Hospital Pedagogy is not a closed science, but a multidisciplinary one, which is still defining its object of study to respond to those situations that, in conjunction with health and education and with a demanding society, become necessary. The general objective of the present work is to understand the performance of the pedagogue in the hospital environment, considering the importance of this professional in the educational assistance of children and adolescents undergoing health treatment. Thus, the following specific objectives were outlined: (a) to study Pedagogy as a science and the role of the pedagogue; (b) get to know Hospital Pedagogy through historical aspects and legal frameworks; and (c) identify the importance of the pedagogue's work in the hospital environment. This work constitutes a narrative bibliographic review, which seeks different conceptions of theorists about the subject studied, with the purpose of outlining an understanding of the object of study. The results obtained indicated that there is an increase in awareness about the need for special attention to the issue of child hospitalization. The purpose of such care, ultimately, will be none other than that of educating for life, a role that falls to the educator and that undoubtedly goes beyond the specific work of health professionals. Educational activity as a complement to medical action in hospitals has been consolidated for years in several European and North American countries.
