Resumo
This study analyzes the impact of employing the Rescue Units (UR’s) of the Military Fire Brigade of Amazonas (CBMAM) in non-emergency activities, such as patient medical transport and preventive coverage at events, and proposes the creation of a specialized sub-group for these functions. The research focuses on the city of Manaus, covering the period from 2023 to 2025, and is based on the observation that the overlap of functions compromises the operational readiness of the UR’s, directly affecting response time and the quality of emergency care. The adopted methodology follows a mixed-methods approach, combining documentary analysis of operational records with a structured questionnaire administered to personnel in the Pre-Hospital Care Group (GRAPH). The data revealed that, during the analyzed period, more than 5,400 hours of UR’s operation were dedicated to preventive events, in addition to 309 occurrences of medical transport in 2024 alone. The research also identified widespread agreement among personnel regarding the negative impacts of these practices and strong support for the creation of a dedicated structure. It is concluded that implementing URs exclusively for non-emergency functions can optimize the management of human and logistical resources, ensuring greater efficiency in pre-hospital care and promoting sustainable operational improvements for the fire brigade.
