Resumo

Reading the world and reading writing are dynamically together, made from words and themes that are significant to the students' experience of the world and not specifically linked to the educator's experience. This article deals with reading in the school environment and its implications for students' lives from a discursive perspective. It is based on the Discourse Analysis theoretical-methodological current, on some authors who discuss the theme and on observations made in Portuguese Language classes during my participation in the Pedagogical Residency Program. For years, education has been suffering harsh criticism, especially with regard to teaching reading and improving it by students, since they have difficulties in reading and understanding what they are reading and teachers are unable to develop strategies to work around this situation.
