Hitória social da comunidade do Paurá: um olhar a partir das memórias de José Martins, Maria Estelita e Maria Raimunda

Abstract

This article addresses aspects of the Social History of the Paurá Community, based on the memories of José Martins Pimentel, Maria Estelita Caldeira Pimentel and Maria Raimunda Neves Serrão, in the Municipality of Urucará - Lower Amazon - whose life trajectories are associated with the processes of formation and institutionalization of this community, around the 1970s. Anchored in the field of Social History (ALBERTI, 2014; BARROS, 2005; CASTRO, 1997) and in the methodology of Oral History (MEYHI, 2005; NEVES, 1998; POLLAK, 1992), it points out a perspective on the Paurá community, and illuminates relevant themes for the history of the present time, such as the influences of the Catholic Church in the processes that have been conventionally called “foundation” of communities and that in this research we treat as “institutionalization”.
