Ocupação união dos povos: o direito à moradia e territorialidade na cidade de Barreirinha-AM

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the process of occupation in the União dos Povos area in the municipality of Barreirinha/AM. The study's specific objectives are to understand the history and public policies aimed at minimizing the housing deficit in the city of Barreirinha; to discuss the presence or absence of municipal public power in the organization and planning of urban space; and to identify the main problems experienced by the families of the União dos Povos occupation. The research is qualitative in nature, using direct observation, data collection through interviews with families of the União dos Povos occupation, and photographic records. We sought readings and reflections in authors such as Lefebvre (2001); Santos (1996); Haesbaert (2004) and Rodrigues (2019) to analyze the lack of public housing policies and socio-environmental conditions. The results demonstrated, in addition to concrete infrastructure deficiencies such as water, electricity, paving, and sanitation in the area, the need for official recognition of the occupation by the public authorities, investment in basic infrastructure, social control, and quality of life for the residents.
