Resumo
This study aims to highlight the ethno-knowledge about fishing in the Simão Sateré Mawé community, an indigenous area in the municipality of Barreirinha, Amazonas. In this sense, the historical and social context that corroborates this cultural resistance was addressed. The work describes a specificity of the indigenous peoples in the community. The way of life expresses, as in other locations, great wealth and means of adaptation for survival. The methods and natural weapons of hunting and fishing vary and are improved according to needs. There is a variation in the equipment made by indigenous people that helps them in these tasks. We sought to delimit them into just three: timbó, bow and arrow and kakurí. It is understood that the fishing activity practiced by fishermen in the community is mainly intended for their own food and that of their families. Within these aspects, highlighting and characterizing the methods used to capture fish become of great importance in preserving and valuing the ethnoknowledge of traditional indigenous peoples, where it is possible to relate this to the scientific knowledge recorded in articles in the literature.
