Furo do pucu: a importância social no período da enchente em Barreirinha-Am

Abstract

Rivers are the main access routes in the Amazonian context, due to its vast hydrographic basin and numerous tributaries. In this scenario, the Pucu channel stands out as an important route for the flow of the local economy. This article presents the socioeconomic relevance of the Pucu channel, located in the city of Barreirinha/AM, being essential as a means of transporting people and goods during the flood season. The general objective is to analyze the importance of the Pucu channel to the economy and the riverside communities of Barreirinha. The theoretical basis used includes Benatti (2016), Carvalho (2006), Louzada (2020), Pereira (2007), Silva and Figueredo (2022), among others. To conduct the research and obtain the necessary data, the methodological procedures adopted included bibliographic review, direct observation, and field analysis. The study also highlights geomorphological processes such as river erosion and siltation, which are aggravated by anthropic actions. Although the channel demonstrates its vital relevance during the flood period, the research also considers the vulnerability imposed by the ebb (dry season), when the reduction in depth severely restricts navigability, impacting local access and the economy. It is concluded that this channel is vital for local development, making it necessary to implement public policies that ensure its preservation and sustainable use. One of the proposed measures is the recovery of riparian forests, whose valorization of this route can improve and promote a more resilient economy in the face of seasonal variations of Amazonian rivers, aiming to serve as a connecting route between two channels that drive the local economy.
