Resumo

This present work addresses agriculture in urban family backyards in the municipality of São Paulo de Olivença, located in the state of Amazonas – from women to medicinal plants. Within this context, the research aimed to carry out a survey of plant species cultivated in agriculture in urban family backyards, analyze how family farming occurs; evaluate the perception of residents regarding family farming in neighborhoods; check the panorama of medicinal plants in the courtyards of houses in neighborhoods in the municipality, “Cantinho da Sanação”; and seek to fulfill the sustainable development objectives – SDGs in the so-called family farming of São Paulo de Olivença/AM. Bibliographic and descriptive research was used. For data collection, extensive direct observation was carried out, which included the application of a questionnaire. A total of 50 houses were visited, represented only by female individuals, with the age of the interviewees predominant being between 31 and 40 years old and the interviews took place in different neighborhoods of the city in question, these being: Campinas, Santa Terezinha, Bonfim, São João and José Carlos Mestrinho. Based on the results obtained, it was identified that the theme of Family Farming is still little disseminated among city residents. It is noted that this practice is limited to a technical use by those who sought specific knowledge in the area, and/or, that was related to subject in question and that women predominate in backyard farming, just as the majority of food is used to feed the home and not for sale.
