The book offers the reader a literary experience as they follow Roger David's journey through the Colombian Amazon in his investigations into the situation of the rubber collectors of the Peruvian Amazon Company, who were being abused and exploited by their superiors, representatives of the British Empire. Cárdenas, with his highly immersive writing, goes through the various reports written by the consul, including the so-called “Black Diaries”, the contents of which are the subject of much speculation and controversy to this day.
