Patrimônio Cultural, Identidade Amazônica e Turismo: uma análise sobre as contribuições do Museu do Índio de Manaus-Am

Abstract

This research aimed to contextualize the relevance of the Indigenous people Museum of Manaus in the diffusion of knowledge about the cultural diversity, mainly of indigenous peoples. The museums are fundamental to the critical formation and they must provide to the visitors a recognition of the value of culture, combating intangible etnocentric points of view in the society. In Turism, the valorization and promotion of cultural diversity are fundamental, as the local culture being an attractive by itself, as well as a tool to the weakening of etnnocentrism. Because of it, there is na intrinsic relation between museums, cultural identity and Turism. In the presente research, a reflection was made on the relation between the Indigenous people Museum of Manaus and the Turism, with the aim of apprehending its contributions to the promotion of indigenous culture and tourism in Manaus. There were purposes of identiying the motivations and intrinsic goals of creating the museum; characterize cultural, educational and citzen actions which were promoted and to verify direct and indirect contributions of the museum to the turism in Manaus. It is a qualitative research by the obtained information during the processo of collecting data with the bibliografic, documental and field research (Flick, 2008). In the museum, there was a few atualized information about the objects and the indigenous culture, and it shows a stereotyped and fragmented vision and the culture of those peoples. This reality hinders the formation of a local identity buit in the diversity elements of local peoples, and consequently, decreases the possibilities of basing a kind of Tourism which recognize cultural richness os the region.
