Resumo

To carry out this research, a brief study on Vocal technique and the sonority in choir was conducted aiming to guide this work`s perception in regards to the correct use of voice. The main objective of this work is to understand the use of vocal technique and its influence in relation to the sonority of the groups investigated. The specific objectives are to describe the principles regarding vocal technique, to analyze the techniques and sonority of choirs during the historical periods of Music, compare the choristers' understanding of the development of choral sonority. The selected groups of research were the UEA choir; the Vocal Group of the Amazona`s Choir (GVCA); the Choir Ivete Ibiapina and the Amazon`s Choir. Then, based on the model proposed by Angelo Fernandes (2009), we approached the issue of choral sonority in the different periods of the history of Music. From this, we sought to analyze the relationship between the development process of the choruses sonority that was chosen. Also, for a more comprehensive understanding of the term ‘sonority’ and of the important aspects in the artistic performance of chorus groups, the works Técnica Vocal para Coros by Helena Wöhl Coelho (1994) e Coral – Um canto apaixonante de Nelson Mathias (1986) were used. With the conclusion of the theoretical framework, the work revealed the results of questionnaires applied to maestros, vocal trainers and choristers from those four prominent choirs in Manaus. These results, were conclusively weighted and provided a brief overview on the importance of the correct application of the vocal technique in choir groups and their artistic fruit in the interpretation. Through the results of the questionnaires answered by the teachers and vocal trainers of these four participating choirs, it was concluded that these seek to guide the choristers in an objective way, but analyzing the questionnaires applied to choristers, it was observed that they do not always understand exactly what their leaders request.
