Resumo

Sexually transmitted infection has become a serious public health problem in the Parintins Prison Unit. Among the most frequent are Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). In view of the above, the present work has the objective of Knowing and analyzing the prisoners' perception about Sexually Transmitted Infection, focusing on HIV and HPV in the Parintins-Am Prison Unit. The central problem is the gradual increase in infections in the prison every year. This is a descriptive, exploratory research with a qualitative approach. The research was carried out with the 20 male prisoners who are enrolled in the Municipal School Vitorio Barbosa. For the data collection, a structured research was conducted with questions directed and previously established, with a questionnaire containing open and closed questions. The results show that prisoners know the importance of condom use and that some STIs have no cure, but rather treatment. In this way, STIs are considered to pose a serious threat to the health of the population deprived of liberty in our country, which the public health system is not always able to achieve. However, although inmates recognize that prevention is important, the use of preventive methods is sporadic.
