Resumo

The digital age that we experienced is the result of transformations series observed worldwide since the last century. The advent of globalization favored the connective technologies expansion and digital interaction networks on which we currently depend not only to maintain social contacts, but to work, study, etc. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic caused, due to the social distance established in most countries in the world, an even greater need to use social networks for the most diverse purposes. In Brazil, the 2020 municipal elections were marked by the intense use of these resources. In this work, we take the pandemic scenario in the Manaus city, where we examine the social media posts of the five candidates for mayor who obtained the highest votes, with the objective of assessing the impact that the exploration of social networks has by the candidates in the number of votes won. The material was collected directly from the candidates' official pages on Facebook and Instagram and analyzed together with the statistics accessed on the Superior Electoral Court website. From the investigation carried out, it is deduced that the effective use of Facebook and Instagram helped to obtain a higher number of electoral votes.
