Resumo

This study aims to investigate the ethnobotanical knowledge of Malachra alceifolia Jacq. (mallow) and its applications in folk medicine among residents of the Vila Paraíso neighborhood in the municipality of Tabatinga, Amazonas state. The research used a quantitative and qualitative approach, utilizing interviews with 25 community residents, field observations, and the collection of botanical samples. The data demonstrate that the plant is well-known and widely used, primarily by women, and is recommended for the treatment of various ailments such as urinary tract infections, digestive problems, fever, pain, and inflammation. Its uses include baths, teas, bottles, juice, and poultices, and the most commonly used parts are the leaves. Knowledge is transmitted predominantly through maternal and family relationships, but it faces a risk of disappearing due to the advancement of allopathic medicine and the modernization of lifestyles. Most interviewees recognize that traditional knowledge is being lost among younger generations. The research highlights the importance of valuing traditional healing practices, reinforcing the importance of preserving popular knowledge and the sustainable use of medicinal plants in the Amazon region.
