Resumo
Research on canine scabies in Tabatinga, Amazonas, highlighted the main challenges facing control of this disease, focusing on economic barriers, lack of infrastructure, and limited public awareness. Among the factors contributing to the high incidence of scabies are poor hygiene conditions, frequent contact with stray animals, and lack of access to regular veterinary care. These conditions largely reflect the region's unfavorable socioeconomic context, directly impacting animal welfare. The most commonly used treatment methods include bathing with antiparasitic products, topical medications, and environmental changes. Despite the high effectiveness of these treatments, many owners face financial difficulties in following them properly. Furthermore, it was identified that inappropriate practices, such as the use of household substances, are still common due to a lack of adequate information about the risks and necessary care. In terms of prevention, the most frequent recommendations involve measures such as maintaining environmental hygiene, avoiding contact with stray animals, and regular veterinary checkups. Therefore, the research emphasizes the need for integrated actions between government, veterinarians and the local community to promote education about mange, improve access to veterinary services and strengthen control and prevention initiatives, seeking to reduce the incidence of the disease and promote animal welfare in the region.
