Resumo
The Amazon has the largest hydrographic basin in the world, with about seven million square kilometers, involving seven countries. The neotropical region is home to the greatest diversity of fish on the planet, with half of the species inhabiting the Amazon basin. The prominent role of fish in the lives of riverside dwellers is clearly reflected in fish consumption, estimated at more than 400g/person/day, one of the highest in the world. Tambaqui is the most important fish in fishing and fish farming in the Amazon region, consumption of this fish is intense and it is highly appreciated for the preparation of various recipes of regional cuisine. The objective of this work was to analyze the conditions of commercialization of tambaqui, in fairs in Parintins. This work was carried out from August 2021 to January 2022. Data collection took place through periodic on-site visits. The relevance of this work comes to show the importance that this activity has for the economy of Parintins and for the “fishemongers”, workers of Feira Nova Conquista and Feira Chicão Garcia. The importance of these places as a source of income lacks incentives, interference from the public power to ensure that fairgrounds can work with dignity and offer a quality product.
