Surgimento dos estaleiros e as primeiras atividades na contrução de pequenos barcos de madeira em São Sebastião do Uatumã-AM

Abstract

This article aimed to understand the emergence of shipyards and the first activities in the construction of small wooden boats in São Sebastião do Uatumã-AM, as well as the creation of a timber industrial hub in the upstream part of the city and the current problems of the regional boat industry. The research was qualitative, using open interviews and a questionnaire, based on literature focused on the topic. The research concluded that the wooden boat industry in São Sebastião do Uatumã is in crisis, mainly due to the high cost of manufacturing the boats, largely due to the increasing scarcity of the supply of wood (Itaúba) used in boat construction. Therefore, this research is important because it demonstrates the current situation of the wooden boat industry, showing that this activity, important for the residents of the municipality, is clearly in crisis.
