Resumo

The present work approaches the contributions of environmental perception in the teaching of geography. The objective of the work was to understand the conceptual theoretical foundations on environmental perception, in order to enter the perceptible universe of students at São Pedro Parananema municipal school in Parintins - AM. This investigation was based on the assumption of the phenomenological method. It is characterized as a qualitative investigation, where different methodological procedures were admitted, such as: bibliographic survey on the subject; field practice, where two classes were held on different days. In both classes, students produced mental maps, and in the first one, students produced them in the classroom and there were no debates on environmental perception. In the second, the students were taken outside the school and there were debates on environmental perception. The main geographic contributions showed that the environmental perception in mental maps, sharpens the student's spatial reading, allowing him to understand the lived environment as a space of conflicts, culture, history, power relations, movements, possible transformations that the place can raise in the face of the environmental crisis that is plaguing humanity.
