Abstract

Teel, a material within the iron–cementite system, stands out for its wide range of applications due to its favorable mechanical properties, both in its original state and after thermal treatments. Among its variations, SAE 1008 steel commonly supplied as cold rolled thin sheetplays an important role in the automotive industry, civil construction, home appliances, electronics, auto parts, tubing, packaging, and agricultural implements. Considering its industrial relevance, this study aims to evaluate the influence of quenching and homogenization heat treatments on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the material. Mechanical characterization was carried out through tensile testing, optical microscopy, and chemical analysis. The applied treatments are expected to produce significant changes in mechanical behavior and result in relevant microstructural modifications that affect the steel’s performance.
