Resumo

Inadequate deposition of solid waste is one of the most present problems in today's society. Despite damage to the environment and public health this practice is still constant, especially in communities of peripheral urban regions. There are millions of tons of urban solid waste has as final destination the controlled dumps and landfills, considered environmentally inadequate. These sites are ideal for proliferation of animals vectors of diseases such as mice, mosquitoes, cockroaches and even domestic animals, where organic matter will serve as food. The work aims to evaluate the presence of the garbage deposit of the city of Barreirinha as a risk factor for the health of the population that inhabit its surroundings, influenced by the occurrence of different animals that transit between the waste disposed on the spot. Methodological development involved a bibliographic research on the subject in question. The observation and analysis of the deposit of garbage with the description of existing animals and interview with the residents of their surroundings. The results show that the city's garbage tank still has open-air dump characteristics, receiving residues from different sectors of activity such as households, trade, service and other activities. The waste deposited there is no process of treatment, randomly being discarded. Among the components are waste paper, plastics, glass, wood, organic origin and health area services. It was also possible to detect the presence of different animals in the midst of waste from the garbage deposit such as: flies, cockroaches, cats, dogs, urubus and others. According to the residents only 22% of respondents collect some type of waste waste, 100% say they have contact animals that attend waste and 91% think that these animals can cause diseases to residents. In general, 100% of respondents claim that the presence of the garbage deposit in the urban perimeter can affect the health of the population.
