Resumo

This paper presents the results of a field research entitled “On the path of Latin: The Playful Teaching of Classical Philology in a Public School in Parintins”, carried out in the context of completing the Portuguese Degree. This proposal sought to investigate how playful practices can further the learning of introductory content of Classical Philology in Elementary School II, and how these provide support for better performance in Portuguese language teaching. The theoretical part is based on authors such as Miotti (2006), Amarante (2016) Leite (2015), Alves (2015), Bortolanza (1993) and Vygostsyk (1984), who defend the relevance of Latin and classical culture in the critical and linguistic training of students and also playful teaching. The methodology of the work is focused on bibliographic research also linked to field research carried out in a State School in Parintins. In this context, activities based on games and translation of text into Latin were proposed as a way of awakening students' interest. The results discuss how Classical Philology and playfulness favoured student engagement, enabling a more significant approach to the universe of Latin language and culture. Furthermore, it is believed that this work can contribute to the valorisation of the teaching of Classical Philology in school contexts, as well as serve innovative pedagogical practices in the teaching of Portuguese Language.
