Abstract

This experience report aims to delve into the roots behind the formation of the municipality of Carauari (formerly Xibauá), seeking to elucidate the origins that make up the culture of the people of Carauari, given that a very large percentage of the local population is either from the Northeast of Brazil or of Northeastern descent. Therefore, it is pertinent to explore their contributions to the formation of the city, as well as their customs, traditions, ways of life, speech, and cuisine. The work engages with oral history, as it was carried out through interviews with local residents who recounted their stories and experiences when this place was still a latex extraction reserve. Finally, it was concluded that the Northeasterners who came here gave us a rich heritage, which includes typical foods such as couscous, the drawn-out accent typical of the inhabitants of the interior of the Northeast region of the country, agriculture, and livestock farming.
