Resumo
The research that generated this text draws on elements of the Social History of Culture (Cardoso, 1997; Barros, 2005), amplifying memories that aid in the (re)construction of aspects of Local and Regional Histories (Reznik, 2002; Galvão, 1955), as is the case of the island of São Lázaro de Vila Nova. This excerpt, focusing on aspects of the life of 68-year-old Adenil Marinho Fonseca, recorded using the methodology of Oral History (Alberti, 2005; Delgado, 2006), aimed to listen to and analyze the memories of this fisherman. This provides us with a privileged perspective on the construction of the society to which we belong, seeking to understand it through the stories told by these voices that carry great experiences. Initial analyses lead us to highlight the importance of the Amazonian imaginary (Loureiro, 2015) that permeates his trajectory, pointing to numerous possibilities for interpretation. Thus, the stories and legends passed down from generation to generation withstand the test of time and are part of everyday life in the Amazon, as are the teachings and experiences passed down from father to son, from son to grandson, and so on. All these elements, such as memory and imagination, help us to understand and discover other ways of thinking about our own rural Amazonian social environment. Using the methodology of Oral History, knowing how to listen to these testimonies is one of the essential practices that the researcher must exercise when interviewing. Knowing how to handle the sources, analyze them, and discuss them appropriately can help expand self-awareness and awareness of the deep Amazon, which needs to be better understood from within, from its memories and from Local History itself.
