Abstract

The present work aims to present the relationship between the city and the cemeteries Nossa Senhora da Piedade and Nossa Senhora da Conceição das Lajes, in Manaus, characterized as peripheral cemeteries, that is, those that do not feature architectural buildings in their tombs and graves, and for being located in areas distinct from the city center. Despite being century-old cemeteries, there are discrepancies regarding their dates of establishment, and there is still a lack of awareness among the population about their existence. We understand that the need to preserve the cemeterial heritage of a place also corresponds to the need to maintain the collective memory that the cemetery holds, as it represents the life, growth, and development of the city. Through its burials, documents, and stories, we have the continuity of the city's history, so that there can be a resurgence of their history and relevance for those who need it. This work is still in the drafting phase and aims to complement future research in the field of cemeteries.
