Resumo
This dissertation with the theme "The Right to a Healthy Quality of Life for App
Delivery Workers" investigates in depth the situation of workers who deliver products
and food through app platforms. The study focuses on understanding how these
workers, often treated as partners by freelance or outsourced platforms, face
challenges related to job security, working conditions and access to labor rights. The
research analyzes the relationship between the business model of application
delivery platforms and the right to a healthy quality of life and well-being of workers,
questioning whether this flexibility and independence offered by the platforms are in
accordance with labor rights and fundamental rights to a healthy quality of life.
Furthermore, it explores the implications of working conditions, including long hours,
lack of social protection and the impact on workers' physical and mental health. The
study proposes approaches that aim to ensure a balance between the flexibility
offered by platforms and the protection of workers' rights. It also examines
government regulation and union initiatives that seek to improve working conditions
for app delivery people. The thesis offers a comprehensive view of the current
scenario and critical issues involving app delivery workers, highlighting the
importance of guaranteeing the right to quality of life for this category of workers in a
context of increasing digitalization of the economy and new models of job. Faced with
the need for self-isolation, delivery apps (delivery services) present themselves as a
solution for consumers and the establishments that support them – supermarkets,
restaurants, bars and pharmacies. On the other hand, however, delivery people
continue to roam the city streets on their motorcycles or bicycles without any
guarantee, right or stability. In this context, two professions have emerged as
dramatic expressions of the new labor market metabolism in recent years: drivers
and app providers. From this perspective, the present work presents the following
problem: what are the main consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in working
relationships between delivery drivers and delivery apps? The objective of this study
is to analyze the work of two deliverers in the post-pandemic period, as secondary
objectives: to investigate the work environment, to address the work through
platforms and to study the direct quality of life.
