Resumo

The aim of this study is to understand how to apply constructivist theory to benefit both music students and music teachers. Based on the ideas of Jean Piaget, constructivism proposes that knowledge is actively constructed by the learner and opposes the mere transmission of information as an educational strategy. This research is grounded in a literature review that analyzes various approaches and experiences in music education that incorporate constructivist practices. The study shows that constructivist ideas contribute to music teaching by offering tools that aid in understanding the development of concepts such as time, reversibility, conservation, seriation, classification, and logical thinking. Furthermore, it suggests that the teacher should not merely be a transmitter of knowledge, but rather someone who exercises autonomy and, consequently, helps foster the autonomy of their students.
