Cultura popular amazônica: danças e encantos da história do festival do peixe ornamental de Barcelos

Abstract

Throughout my childhood and adolescence I participated and still participate in the largest event of popular culture in my municipality, "The Festival of Ornamental Fish of Barcelos" (FESPOB). To write about this theme is to deal with childhood reminiscences and remember fondly the expectation that is to wait all year to dive in January into the clear waters of this festivity. My main purpose in this study was to create a theoretical framework that addresses the history and historiography of this popular culture, which is responsible for moving the economy, politics and the Barcelense society that come together so that everyone can come out gratified by their efforts in making the party happen, so that future Generations of Barcelenses can know its birth and its importance to the municipality. Our concern in this sense is that we do not find in any book, research, notebook, magazines or other bibliographic material that we see about the Festival of Ornamental Fish of Barcelos.For this reason, in this study we tried to answer the questions that instigated me to go through this study: Who or which people were responsible for creating the FESPOB? What was the real reason for its genesis? What are the main difficulties encountered in achieving them? What is the importance of this festival of popular culture for the municipality? All the answers came to illuminate a story that was covered by the veil of obscurity and to bring out a story that would surely fall into oblivion. Through a qualitative and exploratory methodology, in which data were collected through various techniques such as bibliographic survey, semi-structured interview, observation and documentary research, also counting on the analysis of the field diary, we were able to elaborate a document that serves as a cornerstone in the way of research on the FESPOB. Due to the record deficit of this Barcelense event, in the future it will be necessary a deep dive to get more information about this story.
