The TARGET model is a pedagogical intervention model which proposes that teachers manage six dimensions (task, authority, recognition, grouping, evaluation and time) which are malleable and influence the educational structure of a classroom (Ames, 1992). Based on this model, the general aim of this study was to investigate the application of TARGET in music education. As specific objectives, this work aims to explain the six principles of the TARGET model, portray practices of the model in the classroom and propose ways of applying the principles of the model in question to music teaching. In this way, this work sought to expand the repertoire of studies that explain and relate the TARGET model to school practice, especially in music education. To this end, the methodology used was a systematic literature review on the CAPES Journal Portal and ProQuest platforms, ultimately collecting 13 articles for analysis. As a result of this research, possible applications of the six dimensions of the TARGET model in music education were explored, so that future research can verify in practice the effectiveness of the proposals presented.
