A evasão escolar na EJA em escolas municipais de Manaus/AM

Abstract

This study addresses school dropout rates in the first segment at two municipal schools in the city of Manaus, Amazonas. The general objective is to analyze the causes contributing to school dropout rates in the first segment of Youth and Adult Education (EJA) schools in Manaus, Amazonas; the specific objectives are: to identify the social, professional, and socioeconomic profiles of students in the first segment of Youth and Adult Education (EJA) at two schools in the Manaus municipal school system; To examine the educational goals of YAE students; To analyze the main challenges faced by YAE students. The following references were used to support this study: Barros (2007); Coelho (2007, 2021); Freire (1967, 1987); Fernandes, Siraichi (2017); Gil (2019); Ginzburg (1989); Lisboa, Benvenutti (2020); Moura (2008); Oliveira (2014); Paula, Oliveira (2012); Oliveira, Guimarães, Lucena, Oliveira (2025). The Youth and Adult Education (EJA) program aims to facilitate student enrollment, retention, and completion. The EJA student body consists of young people, adults, and older adults who, for various reasons (including work, pregnancy, lack of access, and others), have not completed their studies. School dropout is a prevalent issue in EJA; many students drop out due to work-related issues, a lack of encouragement from family and school, illness, difficulties with public transportation, and other adverse situations that hinder their schooling.
