Corpoblecaute: imersão artística no ambiente escuro

Abstract

The present academic research investigates the experiences of the body immersed in darkness, aiming to understand the sensory, aesthetic, and poetic influences that emerge from this environment and their reverberations in artistic creation. It is grounded in Merleau-Ponty's (1999) studies on perception, reflections on a luminous epistemology within society and the sciences, discussions on vision and the body in a visually-centered society, as per Pallasmaa (2007), philosophical perspectives on the darkness inhabiting contemporary being, according to Agamben (2009), and studies on artistic experiences based on Futuro (2020) and Carvalho (2020). The investigation proposes the concept of Corpoblecaute — a body that finds comfort in darkness — as a catalyst for expressive processes in dance. Drawing from the experiences of three projects developed throughout the undergraduate program, the research recounts immersive artistic experiences and details the conception and execution of a room-installation inspired by sensory practices conducted in various environments. The narratives of creative processes and applied methodologies highlight the artistic and aesthetic possibilities of the body in darkness, exploring it’s potential as a field of poetic expression.
