Resumo
This article presents a qualitative research study aimed at investigating the strategies employed by first-year high school students in solving mathematical problems, with a particular focus on algebraic calculations. The study involved the administration of two diagnostic assessments in the classroom—one prior to and one following the methodological intervention—which enabled the analysis and interpretation of data through the triangulation method. The main challenges identified among students were related to difficulties in understanding mathematical language and applying it effectively in problem-solving contexts. Furthermore, the findings revealed that many students struggle to adopt efficient strategies when addressing algebraic problems. This research is notable for its relevance in promoting conceptual clarity and contente assimilation, as the continuous practice of problem-solving significantly contributes to the development of students’ mathematical skills.
