Resumo

This work presents an investigation into the contact between languages: Portuguese and Spanish, seeking to investigate the occurrence of Spanish words in written Portuguese during text production in 8th-grade classes at the Jociêdes Andrade Municipal School, located in the city of Tabatinga, a border city with Colombia and Peru. The study is based on theoretical assumptions from authors such as Calvet (2002), Sturza (2005), and Weinrech, Labov, and Herzog (2006). Being a qualitative-quantitative research, the data were collected through texts produced by the students – horror and mystery stories – resulting in 93 analyzed texts. As a result of the analysis, occurrences of Spanish words were found in 12 texts, which were analyzed and classified as major and minor, according to the similarities in their use within the texts. This article demonstrated the presence of linguistic variations and interactions through the use of Spanish words in written Portuguese during text production, allowing us to identify words that were influenced by Spanish in the writing process and some factors that possibly contributed to their use.
