Resumo

Belonging to the municipality of Barreirinha-AM, in the Lower Amazon, the quilombola social unit São João do Urucurituba is the object of study of this work. Based on collective memory, this research had as its main objective to analyze the processes of formation of this social unit, as well as emphasizing the struggles of the political-organizational movement for the conquest of its ethnic and territorial rights. In order to understand the historical aspects, an interpretative scheme was adopted, using literature on: slavery in Amazonas and in the states of Pará and Maranhão. The methodological trail followed the following data collection procedures: recording of the narratives of social agents; access to archival documents of ARQSJU, articles and municipal legislation, as well as iconographic recording to compose the repertoire of images, with descriptions of the visual representations of symbols that culturally identify the daily life of the quilombo. To this end, studies are presented that reference the paths taken by former slaves, Raimundo de Jesus Colares and, later, Raimundo Silva, who entered areas of the Lower Amazon and are recognized by all as the founders of the territory that incorporates, among others, the quilombo of São João do Urucurituba, located on the banks of the Paraná do Urucurituba, a tributary of the Paraná do Ramos - Municipalities of Barreirinha/Am. Finally, using multivocal human sciences, we have the record of the struggles and achievements of the quilombola movement of São João do Urucurituba, for ethnic rights guaranteed by the Constitution of 1988, with emphasis on Art. 68 of the ADCT/CF-1988, whose legal support allowed the issuance of the Certificate of Recognition of the Quilombo of São João do Urucurituba, in 2024, an act, this, extensive to the other 03 (three) social units that, together, make up the quilombola territory of Paraná do Urucurituba, namely: Vila Carneiro, Monte Horebe and Igarapé do Mato. In addition to this achievement, in May 2024, in the social unit “São João do Urucurituba”, there is, as a culturally relevant data for these quilombos, the inauguration of the Living Museum; an articulating axis of the Center of Quilombola Sciences and Knowledge, called “Floriza Pereira de Jesus”.
