Resumo
This study aims to investigate the level of knowledge of 30 third-year high school students from Colégio Batista de Parintins, in Amazonas, regarding Contraceptive Methods and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The research is quantitative, descriptive, and exploratory in nature, utilizing a pre-test and post-test design to evaluate the impact of a pedagogical intervention. Initially, it was observed that the students already had family dialogue on the subject, although technical knowledge was limited and focused on generic prevention terms. After conducting theoretical expository classes focused on easily accessible methods (such as condoms, IUDs, and oral contraceptives) and the most prevalent STIs (HIV, Syphilis, and HPV), there was a significant strengthening in the students’ confidence. The results indicated that the intervention considerably expanded the repertoire of known methods and increased the students’ confidence in making informed decisions about their sexual health. It is concluded that the school plays a crucial social role by systematizing knowledge and filling gaps left by family dialogue, ensuring the right to information and promoting youth autonomy.
