Resumo

This research aimed to show the causes of the difficulties of the 3rd year students of the EJA modality of a public school in the teaching of Brazilian literature. It is of a qualitative nature classified as field research of the case study type, whose methods of approaches used were those of the inductive that used investigative techniques with investigative questionnaires, workshop for collection and observation purposes. Specialist authors in the areas of literature, Brazilian literature and literary literacy were sought, such as Alfredo Bosi (2015), Antônio Cândido (2011), Magda Soares (2004), Rildo Cosson (2009), Lajolo (2005) and among others who were significant part to support this research. The results indicate that the level of knowledge of Brazilian literature among the students involved in the research is low. And it is noticed that 75% of the class does not like or does not read and has difficulty understanding the literature and the remaining 25% did not give an opinion. For the class teacher, the students' lack of interest and the current proposals for teaching EJA do not meet the needs for a good teaching of literature, therefore, this research serves as subsidies for future studies that aim to meet these needs of EJA in the literature teaching.
