Resumo
This research aimed to investigate the dialogue between popular knowledge and school knowledge in Botany for the scientific literacy of Basic Education students. The work was carried out at Escola Municipal Luz do Saber, a public school in the city of Parintins/AM with 23 students in the 7th year of Elementary School. The study had a qualitative approach. A theoretical foundation was carried out on the topic under study and a didactic sequence focusing on medicinal plants and the Botany content “plant morphology”. The didactic sequence was carried out as follows: 1) Tour around the School. 2) Collection of medicinal plants. 3) Conversation circle. 4) Production of drawing and text on plant morphology. 5) Organization of exsiccates. Data tabulation was carried out using discursive textual analysis. We concluded that by carrying out the research we were able to reflect on the popular knowledge of the researched students about medicinal plants and provided them with scientific knowledge about plant morphology. The application of the didactic sequence was relevant for the development of this popular knowledge and the introduction of new information about plants, especially plant morphology.
